At the annual meeting of the Alzheimer’s Research Trust Professor, Simon Lovestone told his audience of 10 or 11 drugs which were currently undergoing trials. Another 80 were in the early stages of development.

The public are acutely aware of this growing problem and Alzheimer’s charities are among the favourites to support.

Inflammation a Key to Alzheimer’s

Inflammation has been implicated in Alzheimers Disease. This means generalised inflammation throughout the body. It produces no acute symptoms. It can be identified by testing the blood for the level of c-reactive protein.

Read more about inflammation and health here.

Omega 3 Connection

Interestingly, in a healthy brain there is lots of omega 3 fatty acid; in an Alzheimer’s brain there is not.

As omega 3 fat is a potent anti-inflammatory – one of the best; it might be wise to make sure you – and your family – take plenty of omega 3 fats in your diet. This means oily fish 2-3 times a week and most likely an omega 3 supplement.

Take a strong supplement though – supplying a total of at least 500mg of DHA + EPA daily, and preferably 100mg. (That is, add up the total mg of DHA and EPA quoted on the label.)
