Further to my US visit for the anti-aging clinic, there is another very good reason to go to America.

It is absolutely essential if you are pursuing an anti-aging route to have a solid set of blood tests taken; preferably annually. These allow you to spot problems in advance and also to monitor the effects of any treatment you are undergoing.

Cost of Blood Tests

I mentioned in a previous post about the importance of knowing your blood levels of c-reactive protein (CRP) and homocysteine as they indicate your potential for having a heart attack or stroke – much more so than cholesterol does.

If I wanted to get my CRP measured privately in the UK it would cost around £100. The same with homocysteine. That’s £200 gone already.

You might be able to beg your doctor to do one or the other for free – but what about when you want a follow up test? You certainly will want a follow-up if it is raised and you want to know if your treatment is working.

Now let’s look at the costs in America.

In April 2009 I had homocysteine and CRP blood tests done – plus 61 other blood factors measured for a total of just £250! This has to be a massive bargain when compared with UK costs.

Next Step – Denver, Colorado

My trip to Denver in July 09 built on these results from last year. I needed to go to the next step – finding someone who I respected who could give me sound advice.

I had read up on the tests and educated myself about what they mean – as far as I can.

Consulting with Terry Grossman at his anti-aging clinic in Denver was the result of my decision to find a mentor who would help me interpret my test results more completely and help me to take my health to the next level. I was lucky enough to be at a conference with Terry a few months back and to talk with him and see him in discussions and on a panel.

It was a fascinating and very worthwhile experience.
