Bottled Water Sales Down

bottled-water2-w200-h200  At the start of a revolt against will drink bottled water in restaurants. In a survey by the charity WaterAid, nearly 2/3 of people said that when in a restaurant they asked for that water rather than bottled water.

This helps to explain industry figures showing that, for the first year for a long time, bottled water sales declined last year – by nearly 10%.

False Economy

This could be a false economy. The only time to buy bottled water is when dining out. The rest of the time, it’s much cheaper and more convenient to have a fitted water filter at home.

If you make sure you don’t have a filter which requires expensive replacements twice a year, all the chlorine free water, your family will need to be supplied for less than two pounds a week.

One option is the NSA brand – their unit lasts – without any replacement filters at all – for 3 years. NSA have independent agents – an Internet search should find them, at least in the USA. In the UK it is tricker to find NSA products, but there are at least two suppliers (supplier one, supplier two) offering NSA substitute filters with a 3-year life.

This means you get cheap, chlorine-free water for everything – cooking, watering plants, even for giving to pets; in fact for any purpose when you don’t want to use water spiked with chlorine.

Avoid Chlorine

Don’t spite yourself by drinking chlorinated tapwater in restaurants! After all, chlorine is a powerful bleach.

Yes, chlorine is highly desirable to keep water infection-free. But, once out of the tap, filter the chlorine out before putting it into your body.

Not Jug Filters

Avoid jug filters; in some countries they are restricted, because of the risk of bacterial infection in the filter. They’re also expensive to run. If you have to use one, clean it regularly; don’t let the filter dry out; and keep it in the fridge.
