Circulatory problems, especially stroke and heart attack, have been shown to be more of a risk for certain older people; those with inflammation.
The study’s subjects were aged between 70 and 82. It showed showed that they were more likely to die of a heart attack or stroke, rather than suffer the same but not die if they had a high level of inflammatory markers in the blood.
The blood markers measured were c-reactive protein, fibrinogen, and interleukin-6. These are all well-known factors which, when in the blood at a raised level, indicate inflammation.
