Vigorous Exercise Reduces Cancer

A new report shows strong evidence that strenuous [tag-tec]exercise[/tagtec] for 30 minutes a day can halve the chance of dying form cancer.

The authors say that vigorous exercise is the key: half an hour of tough exercise daily. This will lower the risk of cancer in general, and particularly of cancer of the lung and gastrointestinal tract.

When in the States recently, I learned about a system of exercise which I will be putting into practice soon. This is called interval training. This seems to fit in with the idea these researchers are putting forward.

Interval training has you carry out vigorous-to-very-vigorous exercise of upper, middle, and lower parts of the body in rotation. Although it revolves around taking up 18 minutes a day, this will be equivalent to the 30 minutes quoted above I am sure because it is very tough.

Vigorous Exercise is Good For You

I will report more on interval training later.

The researchers in the study followed 2,560 men from 42 to 61 years of age in Finland. The study clearly showed the benefits to those who exercised vigorously for 30 minutes plus. This was so after adjusting for all variables such as age, alcohol, smoking, body mass index and food intake.

Cancer kills over 155,000 in Britain every year. It’s worth doing a bit of exercise every day to avoid such a fate.
