Four Minute Workout

by malc on September 12, 2009

ex-trainerMore short workouts have started to pop up in London in what are being called ‘convenience workouts’.

I have been writing recently about interval training workouts which, typically, involved one minute of tough exercise followed by 1-2 minutes break – then repeated. The ‘convenience workouts’ might consist of a mere 20 seconds of intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest – then repeat.

The basic ‘interval training’ theory is there – stretching the heart, lungs and general muscles causes the muscle cell size to increase, which increases capacity. This leads to better health.

And, in these days of ever increasing demands on our time, it is good to know that we can enhance the benefits of our exercise in less time – if we will combine it in the right way with increased intensity of the exercise we perform.
