Government ‘Obesity Camps’

by malc on September 25, 2009

obesity-child2‘Obesity Camps’ are to be paid for by the UK governnment after new guidace has been sent to Primary Care Trusts (PCTs). This is with immediate effect.

The options which PCTs can offer range from 12 week weight loss courses to six-week residential courses.

Paediatricians have said that the obesity crisis facing Britain is so great that drastic action was necessary.

Nottingham PCT already offers a 12-week “Go 4 It” course, on which children and their parents attend twice-weekly fitness and nutrition classes.

Some action groups said that it was outrageous to single out overweight kids with a worrying letter, and that it could lead to bullying.

But surely they are probably being bullied already?

Some sort of action is necessary, followed by careful assessment of what is working to establish best practice.
