Great Reference Health Web Site

life extension foundation

If you want to find out detailed information about health issues, one web site I look at first is the Life Extension Foundation site. Though basically driven by anti-aging factors, this makes their information to all who are interested in staying healthy.

The Life Extension Foundation (LEF) is a charitable trust which carries out research on herbs, vitamins, minerals and other supplements. They were largely responsible for publicizing the theory of free radicals and anti-oxidants in the 1980s and have made other breakthrough discoveries.

Their research has often been criticized by some in authority and then later vindicated.

They were pursued through the courts by the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) who tried to put them out of business. This was, it seems, because of unpalatable truths they were telling about the American health system such as the deficiencies in it and its bias towards the all-powerful drugs industry. They bravely fought back – against their legal advice – and the FDA eventually backed off.

Valuable Medical Research

LEF carries out very valuable research with committed researchers dedicated to getting the maximum out of their limited budget.

Their articles on body systems and specific diseases make comprehensive and fascinating reading. They sometimes take a bit of ploughing through, and they usually end up with a huge list of recommended supplements to take; but I always get very good information from them and I think they are as unbiased as you can get (as is much of the information from the anti-aging lobby).

A Solid Source Of Information

If you want good solid information about a particular condition or body imbalance – such as arteriosclerosis or indigestion – do take a look at the LEF site.

Blood Tests

LEF is also a good place to get blood tests done. They recommend annual blood tests for everyone and I have to agree. The information you gain you cannot get in any other way. Because of their bulk buying, the costs of a battery of blood tests is very, very reasonable. A year ago, I had 63 blood tests done for £250 through LEF. Try doing that in the UK – you’d be paying more like £2500.
