The computerization of National Health Service [NHS] patient records was supposed to be finished by next year. According to the Committee on Public Accounts, even the current target of 2015 is looking unlikely.

The programme is supposed to enable the secure exchange of patient information between hospitals all over the country.

If it worked, this efficient exchange of information should be very good for patients’ health. Alternatively, computers being what they are, they’re unlikely to work first time – and the cost overrun is likely to be enormous.
