One person who is very happy about President Obama’s overturning of the restrictions on stem cell research is Michael J Fox.
The star Back to the Future became a campaigner for stem cell research in 2006 after he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. His foundation – the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research has raised $142m for research, and has become a much respected authority on Parkinson’s research.
He still lands film and TV roles; but these are limited as the Parkinson’s makes his arms and legs shake – sometimes a little, sometimes a lot.
A Cure for Parkinson’s Will Be Found
Fox says he is certain a cure will be found for Parkinson’s: the only question is when. When it is found, there is little doubt that stem cells will be part of the solution.
Michael J Fox’s second memoir, Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist (Hyperion, $25.99), has just been published.
