A study has found that 1 in 5 American 4-year-olds is obese. Overall, this makes for half a million obese 4-year-olds in the USA.

This study looked closely at the racial makeup of those taking party in the study’s and also distinguished between overweight and obese – which many previous studies had not.

Before long, America’s ‘minorities’ will make up the majority of the population. This study showed 4-year-olds of the 3 largest minority groups to be the most obese. 

Race Factor of Obesity

Startlingly, American Indian 4-year-olds have a 1 in 3 change of being obese. This is twice as high as for white Americans. Hispanic and black kids are more likely to be obese than whites too.

Concerns for the Future

Unless this trend can be changed, the next generation of Americans will be very prone to the problems of obesity – heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and many cancers.
