It's official - the first phase of swine flu in the UK has passed. Government figures of the number of cases dropped from 110,000 to 30,000 in a week.

It’s official – the first phase of swine flu in the UK has passed. Government figures of the number of cases dropped from 110,000 to 30,000 in a week.

So that’s a start…

However, cases in Latin America are surging, so a resurgence in cases in Britain is thought likely during Autumn/Winter.

There are no signs, apparently, of swine flu mutating into a more virulent strain – a major fear.

So far, 12% of deaths are from people who were previously healthy. The other 88% of those who died had underlying conditions – most of these severe illnesses.

The government currently has no plans to delay the opening of UK schools in September to reduce swine flu infections, though they say that it is possible that this might happen in hot spots.
