Prostate Cancer Tests

by malc on March 24, 2009

blood-test-notes A large study has reported the success of testing all men over 50 for prostate cancer.

It has long been known that a blood test – for prostate specific antigen (PSA) and a rectal exam is helpful to identify prostate cancer risk. Early identification is a key to dealing with any cancer and prostate cancer is no exception.

To avert the development of prostate cancer – and any other cancer – it is helpful to keep generalised inflammation down.

Prostate cancer is the second most common killer cancer in men, after lung cancer.

Testing blood SA and having a rectal exam is to be highly recommended for all men over 50. he rectal exam is not pretty… but it’s probably worse for the doctor. This is just a matter of detecting any swelling of the prostate – which may or may not be cancerous; but the thing is, lack of swelling is a positive indication. This knowledge is worth the minute of indignity.

Omega 3 Fats to Reduce Inflammation

Whether or not the prostate is swollen, correct omega 3 and 6 in the diet will help you by keeping your general body inflammation levels down.

Keep taking omega 3 fats – oily fish, supplements; and reduce omega 6 fats – meat, milk, cheese, most oils – to reduce general inflammation in the body and have a whole host of additional health benefits.

When it comes to oil in the diet, use only olive oil. It hasn’t got much omega 3 fat; but it has very little omega 6 fat. This is good. Most oils – sunflower, safflower, soy – have loads of omega 6 fats, which cause inflammation. Inflammation kills!

The only other oil without the damaging level of omega 6 fats is walnut oil. Walnuts, too, are the best nut to eat for the same reason.
