Swine Flu in the UK appears to be levelling off, according to the latest figures.
Last week an estimated 110,000 new cases were reported. This was a modest increase on the previous week’s total of 100,000. This number was nearly double the number of swine flu cases reported the previous week.
Doctors are bracing themselves for a possible increase when schools return in September and the weather starts to cool down. This will bring on the ‘usual’ flu rush as we head towards winter.
No Detected Virus Mutation
It was reported by the Chief Medical Officer that:
- there is no sign as yet of the virus mutating into a Tamiflu-resistant strain.
- there has been a decrease in infections of childrren
- deaths have been mainly in adults and older children with underlying weaknesses
There have been a total of 31 deaths in the UK attributed to swine flu.
