About 6 years ago I was a founder member of a herbal committee at the manufacturers’ national trade body. My aim was to help establish a framework for manufacturers of herbal supplements to safeguard consumers and to make certain we could manufacture herbal products for long into the future.

After a few months the Department of Health told us not to waste our time; an EU Directive on herbal medicine (The Herbal and Medicinal Products Directive – THMPD) was on the horizon and anything we and they decided was irrelevant.

It was made UK law in 2005, and will be fully implemented by early to mid 2011. It will make 75% of Specialist Herbal Supplies’ products illegal. The licenses required will be horrendously expensive.

There is NOTHING which can be done to stop it. I have been spent many hours on this subject, spent thousands, and been lobbying for 6 years and got nowhere.

Tonight I am having dinner with MEP Daniel Hannan who is very sympathetic to us (as MPs from all other parties are) and he has written several letters; but to little avail. His stance is to back off from the EU and have looser connections. I agree. Much looser.

Change Of Direction

This deep interest of mine in anti-aging, or longevity, is something I will be sharing with you. It will shape the change of direction SHS takes.
