It seems that training with weights helps avoid cancer.
A recent study completed in Sweden followed over 8000 men for ten years. It found that those who carried out weight training had less terminal cancer – and the more weight training they did, the less terminal cancer they got.
It has been clear for a long time that weight training helped keep the muscles strong as we age; we now know there appears to be a secondary benefit of helping us to avoid terminal cancer.
The study was of men – but presumably the same applies to women too. And weight training does not necessarily mean developing big muscles – you can choose whether or not you do by the number of sets of repetitions you do.
