<p>It has been clear for a long time that weight training helped keep the muscles strong as we age; we now know there appears to be a secondary benefit of helping us to avoid terminal cancer.</p>
<p>The study was of men &#8211; but presumably the same applies to women too. And weight training does not necessarily mean developing big muscles &#8211; you can choose whether or not you do by the number of sets of repetitions you do.</p>
<p>A gym training assistant will advise.</p>
